The new single “Space Medusa” incl. six brand new remixes from Žagar is out now. The song “Space Medusa” is taken from the current album “Light Leaks”. The video, inspired by 70’s sci-fi movies, was directed by the Hungarian-Russian filmmaker Danila Kostil. The shooting location was a saltmine and stalactite cave in Cardona, near Barcelona. The mockups were shot in a studio with the help of an Argentinean and Catalan team. The video was made possible by a successful crowdfunding campaign where fans raised over 4000 euros. “We wanted to picture an ethernal, dramatic world with the emblematic analogue technique of the 70’s sci-fi movies. The inspiration was Tarkovsky’s famous movie, Solaris. The video features the Spanish Edu Evia, the American Amanda Goldsmith and my daughter Liza Zságer who appears on the album cover of Light Leaks also” said Balázs Zságer, leader of Žagar. Part of the burgeoning Eastern European electronica scene, Hungarian band Zagar started out as three-fifths of the Yonderboi Quintet. After a few years and some critical success, keyboard player and lead composer Balázs Zságer (Zagar’s namesake), guitarist Andor Kovács, and scratcher DJ Bootsie splintered off to form their own sound, eventually adding drummer Tibor Lazar and bassist Akos Zsager-Vargas to round out the group. Part of the burgeoning eastern European electronic scene, Žagar create a fresh and unique sound based on wave rock, electronica and psychedelic soundscapes. The Hungarian band started out as three-fifths of the Yonderboi Quintet and after a few years and some critical success, keyboard player Balázs Zságer (Žagar’s namesake) and scratcher Dj Bootsie splintered off to form their own sound, exploring more experimental avenues in their music. They eventually added drummer Tibor Lázár, guitarist George Ligeti and bassist Ákos Zságer-Varga to complete the band and are now a hugely significant force on the Eastern European music scene.

For the launch of the single, the band decided to raise awareness of the new single by an unusual social media platform, reaching fans via a uniquely developed Facebook music-player application, sponsored by Bang & Olufsen. In the app, the single is separated into different parts in which users can reserve and share short samples, the full track can only be played after each sample is taken by the fans, leaving the release of the new single entirely up to their audience.
